Shoulder pain can feel like it’s taking over your life — limiting how you move, how you sleep, and how you feel day to day. But the good news is yes, we can help.

At Body Align, our team of Myotherapists and Remedial Massage Therapists are trained to assess, treat, and get to the root cause of your shoulder pain. We don’t just treat the symptoms — we work to understand what’s actually driving your discomfort, so we can help you recover, strengthen, and move freely again.
Common Shoulder Conditions We Treat:
Shoulder pain is complex, and there are many reasons it can show up. Here are some of the most common conditions we see in clinic:
Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
Frozen shoulder causes pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint. Over time, the joint capsule thickens and tightens, restricting movement. This condition can develop gradually and often worsens before it gets better. It can be linked to injury, post-surgery immobility, or even hormonal changes.
Rotator Cuff Injuries
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that stabilise the shoulder. These muscles are vital for lifting, reaching, and rotating the arm. Injuries may include small tears, inflammation, or overuse strains. These are common in athletes or people who do repetitive overhead movements (think tradespeople, tennis players, or new parents lifting babies).
Supraspinatus Impingement
The supraspinatus muscle is part of the rotator cuff and is often involved in impingement injuries. This occurs when the tendon gets compressed or “pinched” between the bones of the shoulder, leading to pain, weakness, and reduced range of motion — especially when lifting the arm.
Supraspinatus Tendonitis
This is inflammation of the supraspinatus tendon, often caused by repetitive strain or poor posture. It may feel like a dull ache that gets worse with overhead movement.
Muscle Imbalances and Postural Dysfunction
Modern life often has us sitting for long hours, driving, or looking down at screens. This can cause certain shoulder muscles to weaken and others to become tight, leading to poor movement patterns and pain. This is incredibly common and very treatable with manual therapy and corrective exercises.
Bursitis
Shoulder bursitis happens when the bursa (a small fluid-filled sac that cushions the joint) becomes inflamed. It can cause sharp pain, especially during overhead activities or lying on the affected side.
Labral Tears
The labrum is the cartilage that helps stabilise the shoulder joint. Tears can occur from trauma or repetitive stress, and they may cause clicking, locking, or instability in the shoulder.
How Myotherapy and Remedial Massage Can Help
We’ll begin with a comprehensive assessment — looking at your range of motion, muscle activation, posture, and lifestyle factors. We combine hands-on techniques like:
• Myofascial release
• Trigger point therapy
• Deep tissue massage
• Joint mobilisations
• Dry needling (if appropriate)
We also incorporate corrective exercises and rehabilitation advice to help your shoulder regain full function and strength.
What You Can Do at Home
Here’s some helpful advice you can start today to support your recovery:
💡 Posture check: Sit tall, shoulders relaxed, avoid slumping forward — especially when working or scrolling.
💡 Heat or cold therapy: Use ice for inflammation or heat for stiff, aching muscles.
💡 Gentle mobility exercises: Shoulder pendulum swings or wall crawls can help with range of motion (we’ll show you how to do these safely).
💡 Rest but don’t immobilise: It’s important to keep moving within a pain-free range to avoid stiffness.
💡 Strengthen gradually: Focus on building rotator cuff and scapular stability with guided exercises.
When to Seek Help:
If your shoulder pain is persistent, affecting your sleep, or limiting your daily activities, it’s time to book in. Early intervention can prevent chronic pain and help you get back to living life, pain-free.
